BIOGRAPHY OF REV. KOFI OWUSU AFRIYIE (Director of KJCH)
Every mighty ocean started by a little drop of water. A big tree was planted with a very small seed and God made it possible to become a great and wonderful tree which gives shelter for travelers to rest during foot journey.
Rev. Kofi Owusu Afriyie, (Director of King Charity Home, an orphanage in Ghana and Director of Disciples Revival Church Ghana Missions) popularly known as Pastor Kofi was born in 1954, 9th July, in a village called Kwamang in the Bekwai Amansie district of Ashanti Region. The mother of Kofi stayed with a husband in a village near Obuasi. The father Kofi died when he was six years so Kofi became an orphan. The mother was eventually sent away by her husband’s family members in the village. So the mother of Kofi became a poor widow and homeless. Therefore no one was taken care of Kofi at age eight, Kofi went to a nearby school and told the head teacher to be enrolled for education. The head teacher did that, but kofi could not get anyone to pay for his school expenses. This becomes another problem at the age of 8. The mother did her best to support Kofi up to primary six, then Kofi’s educational problem rose up again.
During that time, God raised an uncle who adopted him to a lady in another village called Amoaful in the Ashanti region. This lady known as Auntie Maggie became his adopted mother for three years, who got married and travelled to U.K. for so many years, whiles Kofi stayed with the sister of Auntie Maggie.
Gradually Kofi was able to complete form four (4) level with a middle school leaving certificate (MSLC). No one was able to support him in his education, although he was very brilliant and hardworking and this happen in 1970. Kofi started struggling to survive in life. Kofi join Game and wildlife group in Ghana which were into parrot trapping. He was able to make a research together with Game and wildlife, advising the wildlife conservation as well as the Ghana Government to make good care of wildlife (animals, beds, etc) in Ghana. Kofi advised the Government of Ghana that the country would loose animals and birds if trees and forest were not protected within five years. Since 1980 up to date Ghana lost most of tropical birds, animals, reptiles etc.
Kofi started learning and having correspondence courses, teaching seminars etc as a background in education. Kofi was willing to continue classroom education but there was no one to support financially. Kofi became a Christian in 1976, started preaching and witnessing about Jesus Christ and at the same time doing his business as a pet dealer. He was in the Methodist Church, he started church planting in his village as well as evangelism. Through his profession as a pet dealer, he realise there was a call of the Lord upon his life to work as a full time pastor. He prayed for ten years till his calling became matured and responded to become a full time pastor in 1990. He was ordained as a full time pastor in Shiloh United Church by completing the Shiloh Bible College by Arch - Bishop Malaki Ramsey of Shiloh United Pentecostal Church U.K and Bishop Addai of Shiloh United Pentecostal Church Africa.
In 1989, Pastor Kofi started a church by name Body of Christ Ministry and later affiliated with a church in Canada named Disciple Revival Church. The church is now fully established and growing with branches in some areas in Ghana as Ghana Mission.
Moreover, Pastor Kofi had a dream several times in 1987 to start an orphanage to cater for orphan, needy children, Babies and needy youth. On three consecutive occasions, he saw himself in a dream surrounded by many children and he taught, fed and played with them. After a lot prayer has been done about it, the Lord told him to take care of orphans and needy children. As the years went by, he could no longer ignore this vision anymore. He therefore established this home with his lifetime saving and with three children. Back to top
God has been using Pastor Kofi to raise many orphans, needy youth, destitute babies and street children, who have become very good Christians and good citizens to the society in Ghana. Pastor Kofi aims at gathering the above people and giving them a meaningful life, so they could contribute to the building Ghana in becoming a good nation. He also aims to reduce the menace of street children, drunkenness, drug abuse and armed robbery from the grassroots in Ghana. Pastor Kofi saw that Ghana has lost great skilled and intellectuals because those needed children never rose up to become who they were born for as a result of these problems. This generation needs to produce these great and wonderful children and this is the part Pastor Kofi and King Jesus Charity Home (KJCH) can play. Pastor Kofi hopes to achieve these by providing them with free education to the University level, free shelter, food, medical care and vocational training.
This wonderful work has been a success which many students have completed University,Teacher Training Collage,Senior High School,Polytechnic,Vocational training,Junior High School and others are in the Primary school.
The motivating part of this success story as a pastor and director of an orphanage was based on his life experience. God also tapped his profession as an excellent wildlife conservator who is able to trap pets and may be able to trap souls for the Kingdom of God. By the grace of God Pastor Kofi is able to train many workers for the lord’s work.
